Yoga Psychology

Yoga psychology is based on the philosophy and principles of Raja Yoga. Raja Yoga is also known as the Yoga of Consciousness. It is a 5,000 year old tradition which teaches one how to attain inner freedom, harmony and balance.

This inner freedom, harmony and balance can be attained by a daily practice of body conditioning, self study and attentiveness to life style.

What Is Body Conditioning:

Body conditioning may include some or all of the following elements:

  • Diet (Eating foods that are optimal for your body type)
  • Exercise
  • Body Postures (Asana)
  • Breath Control (Pranayama)
  • Sense Withdrawal / Deep Relaxation (Pratyhara)

Here’s a short audio relaxation / focus exercise for you.

What Is Self Study:

Self Study includes the practice of some or all of the following:

  • Concentration Exercises (Dharana)
  • Meditation (Dhyana)
  • Contemplation (Samadhi)
  • Being cognizant of who you are, utilizing your personal strengths, and understanding how a healthy attitude leads to a healthy life.

All aspects of self study facilitate a deeper understanding of oneself and greater control over the operation of one’s body, emotions and mind.

A note about concentration: Practicing concentration exercises on a daily basis makes everything easier in life. The degree of one’s personal success – be it in business or school, as an athlete, in relationships, to control one’s moods, or increase intuition and creativity -is a function of their ability to concentrate in a relaxed and detached manner. While Neurofeedback can and does increase one’s general ability to concentrate and focus on demand, it is only through daily practice that one can significantly, and profoundly increase ones’ powers of concentration.

What Is Attentiveness To Lifestyle:

Being mindful of how you treat yourself, how you treat others and how you express your personal values through everyday activities and relationships.
